Commissioning Custom Art: A Creative Journey with Gallery Artists

Commissioning a custom piece is a collaborative experience that connects you directly with the artist's vision, ensuring the final work perfectly suits your specific space. The gallery actively manages and serves as the main point of contact for our resident artists, including those who take on commissioned work. Artists like Patricia Derderian, Jila Davoodi, and gallerist Brenda McMahon have created recent commissioned pieces, among others.

Choosing Art That's Right For You

Each artist specializes in a unique medium, ranging from Brenda’s ceramics to Patricia’s architectural-style paintings and Jila's dynamic portraits and landscapes. We invite you to visit our online collection for ideas or inspiration.

The Commission Process

Our gallery typically follows a structured seven-step process that can take between six to twelve weeks.

  1. Consultation: During the initial consultation, you will meet with Brenda or a gallery representative, either in person or over the phone. Initially, you will discuss the project scope, the artist you're interested in, and your desired size and color palette. The Gallery will price the proposed commission.
  2. Design: After the consultation, the commissioned artist creates multiple design concepts. For Brenda’s ceramic wall art, this often includes sketches or "mock-ups" of the tiles and their layout. A 50% deposit is required at this stage.
  3. Revisions: Clients will have then have the opportunity to review and discuss any modifications they would like. This stage confirms the final design, colors, and specific details.
  4. Deposit: The total commission price quoted is the price of the artwork unless there are significant changes to design or size. Final payments are due upon completion of the commissioned artwork.
  5. Communication: During the process, a key aspect is keeping clients informed. After completing certain stages, artists then share photos or videos from their studios, providing a behind-the-scenes look as your piece comes to life.
  6. Completion: After the gallery ensures that the artwork aligns with the agreed-upon vision, we then arrange a final reveal to the client.
  7. Delivery and Installation: When all parties are satisfied, we offer insured shipping or local pickup. For certain pieces, we even arrange home installation!

We look forward to working with you on your custom art piece!
