Homage to Simon

This book sculpture, Homage to Simon, was carved from the book, A Celebration of Life by artist Simon Bull. Book sculptor Ted Wray carved in a reverse orientation, resulting in what is perceived as the front cover actually being the back cover.

Wray utilized the vibrant hues present in this anthology of flower artwork to augment his creative concept. As the book progressed, the artists' paintings transitioned from realism to abstraction. Wray incorporated a number of the author's mathematical motifs to encase the more natural, non-representational forms that he carves.
