Ancient Balance

This sculpture by Susan Livingston features a delicate ceramic vessel perched atop authentic Pleistocene whale bone. The piece showcases a Madagascan Cretaceous oyster shell forming the boat's hull, with fossilized coral anchoring the bow and stern. A removable grate reveals a recessed dish beneath, adorned with Florida Pleistocene coral, while a diminutive ammonite fossil is artfully embedded within the clay structure. The entire work rests upon a carefully crafted clay base, merging natural history with contemporary ceramic artistry.
