Jupiter Moon at Dusk

This porcelain vessel, by ceramist Brenda McMahon, was thrown on the potter‘s wheel and hand burnished with a river stone. The burnishing compresses the clay, creating a satin finish on the surface of the vessel. Once fired in the Kiln, Brenda prepares her vessel for the saggar firing. She wraps each vessel with natural materials, in this case layering wires on top so that over the course of the firing the heat, vapor fume, and undulation of the burning materials create this dynamic surface. Each vessel is carefully layered with three coats of bees wax
