Lady Liberty, POW by Christine Grossman
$ 3,500.00
Lady Liberty is the focus of this piece; she is distraught with hands on her face. Hidden in her shadows is a part of the poem “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus which is engraved on the base of the Statue of Liberty. The “gray area” depicting negative imagery is highlighted by the inverted American flag, a sign of distress, which the artist does not want to give further attention. In stark contrast, the colorful wall aims to represent all the marginalized communities that are being targeted by the current administration. The gavel representing The Supreme Court is falling apart while attempting to break the wall, which is trapping Lady Liberty, making her a Prisoner of War (POW).
