Gather the Women, Save the World

by Judith Villavisanis

This reproduction of the mixed media oil painting is printed on fine art archival paper with a 2" white border. It has a title and artist signature on the bottom border. It is available framed & unframed, in 2 sizes.

In March, 2026, Villavisanis created this piece as part of Brenda McMahon Gallery's Women's History Month Exhibition: Women Leading the Change.

The women seated around the table are well known activists in conversation. They represent environmentalists, economics, healthcare, Democratic participation. The image will recall "the Last Supper" and a painting "About a Girl" by artist Mamma Anderson.

In the original, each portrait is hand painted in oil on birch plywood with three dimensional building up of the plywood surface, so the viewer feels as though the table is right there.  The backdrop, with nature and fires, represents our current time with global warming and disregard for the earth. (The list of women at the table is below)

Left to Right:

Lady Liberty, Malala Yousafzai (Pakistan) Nobel Peace Prize (2014), Fight for the right for all children to have education, Nadia Murad (Iraq) Nobel Peace Prize Human Rights  (2018), Fought to end sexual violence as a weapon of war, Angeline Murimira (Zimbabwe) NYT Magazine Person of Year Education, Gloria Steinem (USA) Editor Ms. Magazine/Activist, Greta Thunberg (Sweden) Environmental/Political Activist, AOC Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (USA), Mona Lisa w/Gorilla Girl Book: Art of Behaving Badly, Elena Kagan - Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor - Supreme Court Justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson - Supreme Court Justice, Native American Woman breast feeding (Sacajawea). Represents nurturing and native cultures. Her stare is directed toward all of us a a witness and to hold all of us accountable. It’s a steady stare, almost in defiance. Imploring about the future of her child in a ravaged world.

The women on the wall have passed. They are:

Jane Goodall, Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Sandra Day O'Connor (1st female Supreme Court Justice)
