Bookmaker Robert Stolarik

Robert Stolarik is a former New York Times Photojournalist turned artist. His hand crafted journals and books are inspired by the images of the conflicts and news he covered in the United States, Europe, Latin America, and the Balkans. His photojournalism carried him through groundbreaking coverage of stop-and-frisk policies, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, the Haitian Earthquake, and the unrest in Ferguson and Baltimore.

Robert now literally takes torn pages from old newspapers and layers them one upon another on the wooden cover using glue and linen to create his timeless surface. Between the hand stitched spines  of each book is torn and folded German made hahnemühle ingres paper held together with Belgium cord. The end result is a magnificently crafted and worldly one-of-a-kind journal for you to use and treasure for a lifetime. Robert creates these books in the basement of his Brooklyn home.
